First Holy Communion & Confirmation Time
Leaving cert results last Friday. Back to school this week. Summer sun has gone! Now is the time to get moving again. For those who have children in non-parish schools but wish to celebrate First Penance/Eucharist & Confirmation please contact Martina in the parish office over the next few weeks.
Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes Sept 3rd – 8th 2026

Church gate collection takes place this weekend after all Masses. Your support is greatly appreciated.
First Friday
Next Friday is the first Friday of the month of September. Mass will be offered for the Altar Lists of the Dead on Friday in Newcastle & Saggart, Thursday in Rathcoole. Those unable to get to Mass and would like a visit from the priests leave name and contact details in the sacristy or parish office. An opportunity to receive the sacrament of confession and Sacrament of the sick as well as Holy Communion.
Brittas – A walk for Adine
Adine Quinn’s family & friends are organising a walk in memory of her on Sunday 30th, August, meeting at Brittas Community Centre at 11am and walking to and through Slievethoul forest. Refreshments afterwards back at the Community centre.
Saggart – Family Fun Day
Community Family Fun day takes place on Sunday the 6th of September, 1-5pm. Saggart Schoolhouse Community Centre. Do drop in for a bit of fun.
Newcastle Community Week 13th – 20th September
To mark community week in Newcastle there will be a number of different activities. On Saturday 19th the Dublin Gospel Choir will be celebrating their ‘Night of Soul’ in St Finian’s church at 7.30pm. The Newcastle Folk group will also be performing. Tickets are €20 and will be on sale after Mass in Newcastle over the next few weeks. Limited capacity so get tickets early to avoid disappointment.
On Sunday 20th (10.30 – 3pm) there will be a large Bric-a-Brac sale in St. Finian’s Community Hall in aid of Newcastle Tidy Towns. This aimed to encourage the re-use of items and the circular economy. The hall will be opened on 5 and 12 to accept donations. Good quality items ‘as good as new’ and will accept homewards, books, toys, garden pots and ornaments, vintage items, vinals and unwanted gifts. (No CDs, DVDs or Electrical items please.)

Takes place on Sunday September 20th. Beginning in Greenogue 1pm. Details of route will follow.

Pathways into Pastoral Ministry
This course is for any adult who wants to explore and grow their faith. Over a year, participants are offered inputs on foundational issues of faith and the impact they have on ministry and parish life. There is also time for small group sharing and the opportunity for three different retreat experiences. On completion of the course, people are presented with a certificate.
Pathways is run on a Thursday evening (during term times) at the St Patrick’s campus of DCU in Drumcondra from 7.15pm to 9.15pm. The course starts on September 24th and runs until May 13th, and costs €300.

Season of Creation 2026
After this summer in Ireland, we don’t have to imagine burnt earth, dry and cracked soil, desert and depleted resources of water. If we were lukewarm before about ‘Care for our Common Home’ or cynical about ‘Laudato Si’ we have an opportunity to revisit those views by immersing ourselves in the celebration of the Season of Creation in our liturgies and our communities (everything doesn’t happen inside the church building) from September 1 to October 4 (Feast of St Francis of Assisi).

These resources for 2026 were compiled by the ‘Laudato Si’ Working Group of the Irish Bishops’ Conference & Trócaire. The theme is ‘Living Water’ inspired by Ezekiel 47:9,12.
